Background

Darja Pilz works as a director of photography internationally. Her main field of work are character driven narrative features and series. She loves strong psychological drama and complex stories, that offer a glimpse behind the societal curtains. She applies her knowledge as an entrepreneur in shooting compelling commercials. She has experience in brand storytelling and online marketing. That gives her a precise eye for communicating the brand and product story.

She holds the Masters Degree in Cinematography from the Hamburg Media School, Germany.

 

Portfolio

She is most knows for the fiction feature SHARAF directed by Samir Nasr. The unique feature of the film was the pan-Arab cast with actors from seven countries. It premiered in the main competition of the Red Sea Film Festival 2021.

The innovative film 12 HOURS leads the way into a new era of storytelling. Created and directed by Emre Mirza, it incorporates audience data into the making of the film. Doing so, it creates real connection to the audience. That raises the film from a mere consumer product to a level that makes real social impact possible.

The art film project PROGRESSIVE TOUCH was a collaboration with renowned artist Michael Portnoy. It has gained international recognition for „exploring gender, power and freedom in an inclusive and humorous way“.

Prices

Her short film BURDEN’S WEIGHT was awarded with the Studio Hamburg Prize Award and nominated for the Cinematography Prize at the Int. Women’s Film Festival Cologne. The tragicomedy IN THE NICK OF TIME  was shown at over 100 festivals worldwide. Such as PlusCamerimage, Short Shorts Asia in Tokyo, Best Short Film 34. Biberacher Filmtage and Best Short Film Avanca Film Festival and received several awards.
